Community Projects

The following community projects are not maintained by the Actual Budget project but integrate with it. They are for special use cases or for developing features that have not yet been integrated into Actual.

These and other projects can be discussed in the #community-projects channel on the Actual Discord server.

If you want your project listed here, notify people in the #documentation Discord channel. Before you can ask for it to be added, your project must have a proper README file.

Bank Export and Importers

The following are implementations of bank syncing using the Actual API, or converters that turn bank exports into files for Actual's import dialog. For instructions on using them, see the respective repositories.

  • Admin and workbench companion for Actual Budget. Bulk-edit data, manage, merge and diagnose rules, 12-month budget view, snapshot inspection, and ActualQL queries - all changes staged until you save.

  • Writes Actual's scheduled transactions to a standard .ics calendar file: rent, payday and the car payment beside everything else you plan around. Read-only, filters by account or schedule, stays current on a cron line without duplicate events.

  • Pairs receipt files to transactions: copies each receipt into a local folder and writes its path onto the transaction note, so the desktop app opens the file in Finder or Explorer on click. verify re-checks every pairing and exits non-zero on any mismatch. No OCR, no cloud, only the note field is written.

AI Assistant Integrations (MCP)

These servers implement the Model Context Protocol, letting Claude and other MCP-compatible AI assistants read from (and optionally write to) your Actual budget. For setup instructions, see the respective repositories.

  • Connect Actual to Claude and other AI assistants. Ask about your budget in plain language, get spending analysis and projections, and create, edit, or delete transactions. Deletions wait for your confirmation, and an optional read-only mode hides the write tools entirely.

  • Lets Claude and other LLM assistants query your accounts, transactions and reports (spending by category or payee, budget vs. actual, net worth, cash flow, trends). Read-only by default; the --enable-write flag adds tools to manage transactions, categories, payees, rules, custom reports and dashboards. Runs over stdio or HTTP (with optional bearer-token auth), via npx or Docker.

  • Broad coverage of the Actual API, including transactions and splits, transfers, budgets, schedules, rules, tags, notes, ActualQL queries and bank sync. Runs locally over stdio for Claude Desktop, or as a remote HTTP server for LibreChat, LobeChat and other clients with bearer-token or OIDC multi-user auth. Supports switching between multiple budgets mid-conversation. Available via npx, Docker or Unraid Community Applications.
